A Prototype of the Next Generation Acura RL Shows Up At New York International Auto Show NEW YORK - Acura Division of American Honda debuted a prototype of the next generation Acura RL at the North American International Auto Show. The prototype has a 3.5 liter VTEC V6 engine that produces 300 horsepower. This is pretty amazing since Lexus 4.3 liter V8 also produces 300 horsepower. It also quells rumors that the next generation RL was going to have a V8 engine. What also is amazing is that the RL prototype meets LEV2-ULEV emissions standards. A 5-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission that enables gears to be shifted using the shift lever on the center console or with paddle style shifters located on the steering wheel was mated to the V6 engine. In addition to the amazing engine, there are other advancements on the Acura RL prototype. The RL Protype has Acura's new Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive System(TM) (SH-AWD(TM)). This new all-wheel-drive system transfers not only the amount of torque between front and rear but also left and right rear wheels. Other features on the Acura RL Prototype are Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), a system in which the low beams swivel up to 20 degrees in either direction in response to vehicle speed and input from the steering wheel, Acura Keyless Access System(TM), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA(TM)), and more. The all-new second generation 2005 Acura RL will be introduced this fall. Driving off
