Driving Autos News 04/04/04 Cadillac's New World BeaterWill the new STS help Cadillac overthrow Lexus? It almost seems like Toyota makes no mistakes lately. Lexus was introduced by Toyota in 1989 and the last few years has been the best selling luxury brand in America. This is no small feat for a brand who has been around only 15 years. Things may change with the 2005 model year debut of the all-new Cadillac STS. The STS, like other Cadillacs, is designed with their Art & Science design philosophy. On the STS however the design is a little softer. The vehicle was unveiled earlier this year at the 2004 New York International Auto Show. Like the 2006 Lexus GS, the Cadillac STS will be avilable in 6 or 8 cylinder engines and rear or all wheel drive. The 3.6-liter V6 engine produces 255 horsepower and is only avaliable in rear wheel drive. The other engine choice is Cadillac's Northstar 4.6-liter V8 which turns out 320 horsepower. Which is very competitive with the Lexus GS. The STS is built on the GM Sigma platform which is used on the CTS and SRX. It will be built at GM's Lansing Grand River plant. The new STS is a great improvement over the Seville which it replaces, and a formidible machine. When it arrives at dealers fourth quarter of 2004, we will see if that translates into a new reigning sales champion in America.
